For a long time, economic development marketing was geared solely towards site consultants with the goal of attracting major employers. Everyone else either got no marketing at all, or we hoped they were covered by what we were giving the site selectors.  As the scope of economic development expands to include small business assistance, business retention and expansion, retail attraction, and more, we find that many communities do not have a system in place for marketing to these new audience. 

Getting into a marketing mindset means thinking of every interaction as a marketing event.  This will help you establish a brand and influence your audiences with more precision.  In this presentation, we’ll discuss how to:

• Identify new marketing audiences
• Shape your interactions with these audiences into marketing touchpoints
• Create consistent language, visuals, and messaging that will increase brand recognition and reputation
• Plan ahead to future marketing needs and create systems that will make marketing easier
